Tournament Rules

  1. Qualifying Areas: All of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries as permitted by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. (https://dnr.maryland.gov)
  2. Eligible Rockfish: Rockfish (1 Rockfish per person) Not My Child's Committee will NOT be tracking which angler on your boat catches the team rockfish (if one angler catches all the rockfish, that is the team's choice), but you are NOT allowed more than one rockfish per person on your boat. These same rules apply to Charter Boats as well.
  3. All Anglers must be registered before fishing.
    1. Only persons listed on the official registration form are considered anglers who are eligible to participate.
    2. Captains and mates are also subject to this rule.
    3. Anglers list may be adjusted up until the Captain's meeting on September 3, 2024 BUT NOT AFTER.
  4. There is no minimum boat size.
  5. Insurance information must be provided for the boat being used in the tournament.
  6. Boat Captains must attend the Mandatory Captains' Meeting on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Red Eye's Dock Bar in Grasonville, MD. If a Captain cannot attend the meeting, he/she must send an authorized representative.
  7. It is up to each Captain and anglers to know the up-to-date MD DNR and Coast Guard 2024 Rules and Regulations. Do not ask committee members for legal advice regarding any applicable rule, statute, law or ordinance. Committee is not responsible for any legal infraction committed by any anglers, guest and/or captain.
  8. All fish must be caught hook and line.
  9. Chumming, live bait and/or use of eels is permitted. All legal hook and line fishing methods are permitted.
  10. IGFA all-tackle rules apply.
  11. For Catch & Release Category Measurement: In order to have your fish judged, you must submit a clear and readable digital photo of your fish measured resting on top of the official 2024 measuring stick before the 3:30 p.m. cut-off via email to [email protected] or in person). If your fish is over 45 inches long, place it beside the measuring stick instead of on top so the judges can confirm the date on the stick.

    You must also attest in person and on your honor that the fish to be measured was released alive into the water from which it came.

    The judges reserve the right to interview any potential witnesses regarding the live release and method of the catch of any fish presented for tournament consideration.

    The judges also reserve the right to examine the embedded metadata of any photo image to confirm the validity of a claim. Photos with edited or missing metadata may be disallowed at the judges' discretion.

  12. Any side betting outside of the tournament's official rules is not the responsibility of the Not My Child.
  13. Prize money will be awarded within 30 days of the event unless the tournament winners are contested.
  14. All winners will be required to complete a W9 in order to receive any prize money.
  15. Fish must be brought, via tagged cooler/bucket, to Red Eye's Dock Bar before the 3:30pm mandatory arrival time. Early weigh-ins will start at 2:00pm.
  16. The registered Captain will be the only one allowed into the weigh-in area to check in fish.
  17. Winner Categories:
    • 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place 3 Rockfish (weight) Stringer.Tie will be decided by length.
    • Largest Rockfish Catch & Release. Tie split.
    • Brown Bag Heaviest Mackerel $500 prize. Tie decided by length.
    • Brown Bag Heaviest Blue or Channel Cat $500 prize. Tie decided by length.
    • Brown Bag Heaviest Blue Fish $500 prize. Tie decided by length.
    • Brown Bag Heaviest Puppy Drum $500 prize.Tie decided by length.
    • Brown Bag Heaviest White Perch $500 prize. Tie decided by length.*Brown Bag prize amounts do not change with boat count; it is a sponsored category. All fish must meet DNR requirements for length. Also, if one category is not caught the additional $500 will be applied equally to all others in Brown Bag Class.

  18. Fishing Hours: No lines in before 6am.
  19. No Gaffing. No Culling.
  20. Weather: The Tournament Committee reserves the right to cancel and move to the rain date on Sunday 9/8/24) due to unfishable weather conditions.
  21. Mechanical Breakdown: Your boat's condition, electronics and efficiency are equally as important as your fishing skills. All boats/teams are responsible for getting their fish to the weigh-in station, even if towed, aboard another tournament boat or a back-up boat is used.
  22. Refund Policy: There is no refund on paid entries.
  23. Entries limited to 90 boats/captains.
  24. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to refuse entry to any person or team.
  25. Any fish entered in the tournament is subject to disqualification if the judges decide it bears suspicious marks or characteristics. Fish may be cut open after weighed. Captains/Anglers may be required to take a lie detector test. All decisions by judges are final.
  26. Safety: All participants and guests of participants are responsible for their own personal safety and security of their personal property and assume any and all risks to their personal safety and well-being.
